Hansel and Gretel

My first finished picture book! Signed copies available in my shop (plain ones on Amazon).

I am very aware of how many Hansel and Gretel books are out there. It’s ridiculous, and some of them are weird. I didn’t create this book because I saw a gap in the market, but because of an online picture book illustration course I took (Children’s Book Pro), where students were given one of three fairy tale scripts to work with, and I ran with this one. All the way to the finish.

I used this project as an opportunity to explore my fascination with crazy contraptions and Black Forest iconography, and to pay homage to Bill Watterson on more than one spread. I rewrote the text to match.
