Why I voted the way I did.

U.S. Senate—Evan McMullin (UNA)

My strongest reason for voting for McMullin is that I genuinely want someone who can bridge the partisan divide and actually help us compromise and negotiate across party lines. My biggest turn-offs toward Mike Lee have been some of the ways he vilifies and disparages anything labeled Democrat or Liberal, and as someone with a lot of views that currently fall more into the liberal camp, but still wanting to unify with a lot of right-leaning people who I care about, Mike Lee doesn’t seem to add anything good to our political discourse.

U.S. House—John Curtis (REP)

I don’t agree with John Curtis on everything, but there are a few key things that I respect him for: (1) He is talking about and is involved in climate and environmental issues, something that I think has very unfortunately and unnecessarily been a partisan matter, and is, of all the political issues, one that I am very passionate about. (2) He seems respectable and personable, and doesn’t appear to do a lot of finger pointing. It says a lot about him to me that in one of his newsletters earlier this year, he was even willing to mention something that he thought Joe Biden did well. There was a Democrat on the ballot, Glenn J Wright, but it didn’t seem to me that he was really prepared for the job as I couldn’t find enough information on him and his positions to make an informed choice in his favor.

State Treasurer—Marlo M. Oaks (REP)

Seemed the most qualified for the position.

State Senate 23—Keith Grover (REP)

The only one on the ballot.

State House 61—Marsha Judkins (REP)

Seemed the most qualified for the position. I couldn’t find any information on Michael Anderson (DEM).

Utah County Commission Seat A—Amelia Powers Gardner (REP)

Also seemed the most qualified. On her website, her main talking points were “Conservative solutions” and keeping taxes and government small, all of which I feel unsure of my opinion on. I’m honestly not sure if all of these equal positive outcomes, but I’m also not sure if they equal negative outcomes. She seemed more qualified than her two Democrat and Unaffiliated challengers, who I couldn’t find much information on.
